Initial Exam and Consultation |
|
Your initial exam is the first step in determining your orthodontic needs. We will do a panorex x-ray and digital photos before you meet with Dr. DeWitt. He will review the x-ray and photos along with an orthodontic exam to determine what type of treatment may be necessary. At that same time Dr. DeWitt will give you an estimate of the cost of the proposed treatment. Our treatment coordinator will offer several payment options. We will answer any questions you may have…we like questions!

We will make every effort to honor all time commitments and request that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. We ask that you please give us 24 hours notice, if possible. This courtesy will allow us to offer your appointed time to another patient. Occasionally, it may be necessary to schedule appointments during school hours.

The best age to first bring your child to see an orthodontist is around the age of 6 or 7 years old. An early examination allows Dr. DeWitt to determine how and when your child’s particular issues should be treated to achieve the best possible result. Sometimes it is necessary to address certain issues, such as a crossbite (narrow upper arch), or a severe overjet at an earlier age to encourage a healthy dental development pattern. If your child does not have any pressing orthodontic issues, we will schedule an appointment to re-examine him or her at a later date.

We will be happy to process your insurance forms for you. If we have problems collecting from your insurance company, or we do not participate with your particular insurance company, the responsibility for payment is ultimately your obligation. In most cases your portion of payment is expected when the services are rendered and we will bill your insurance for their portion. We will do our best to help you receive the maximum benefit from your insurance company. Please remember that most insurance companies pay a fixed allowance and others pay a percentage of the charge.

We encourage you to call with any questions you may have concerning orthodontics. However, it is often impractical for the doctor to be interrrupted while he is with patients. Our office staff is well qualified to answer most questions. If the call requires the doctor to speak with you, he will return your call at the earliest opportunity.
